Jane A. McFaddin

North Charleston, South Carolina

Of Counsel, since 2024

Ms. McFaddin practices probate administration and litigation in the firm’s Charleston office, becoming Of Counsel to the firm in September 2024.

Admitted to the S. C. Bar in 1976, Ms. McFaddin first served as associate legal counsel to the S. C. Department of Social Services, where she drafted and implemented a training program for adult and child protective services workers in every county DSS office, regarding preparation of legal cases in S. C. Family Courts. Particularly, Ms. McFaddin supervised legal implementation of the then-newly enacted permanency planning and termination of parental rights statutes affecting children in foster care.

Jane moved to Charleston from Columbia and began her solo private practice in 1981. She continued her practice of representing families and individuals in the Family Courts. She later became one of several attorneys to work with the Charleston Police Department Elder Support unit, to advocate for protection of vulnerable adults in the Probate Courts. She continues her practice of representing families and individuals in the administration and resolution of conflicts in decedents’ estates.

Jane grew up in Manning, S.C. and received her A.B. in Political Sociology from Sweet Briar College in 1973. While in college, she was elected to the Judicial Board, served as Dorm President, and participated in the Washington Semester program at American University, Washington, D. C. She received her J.D. from the University of South Carolina Law School in December 1975, having also attended an exchange semester at the University of Exeter Law School, Exeter, England.

Jane has always viewed her participation in the legal profession to be one of service and advocacy for those whom she represents. Outside her law office, she enjoys advocating for sustainable environmental practices in the Lowcountry, including restoring to its original longleaf pine forests, family property in Clarendon County, S. C. She is blessed to also share a special family home on Pawleys Island, S. C., with a native coastal plant garden.
